Arena Events+Venues and ARX Brasil consortium leads the Bumbódromo de Parintins project

The intervention promises to raise the festival to international standards — more comfort, safety and an immersive experience for audiences, without interrupting the celebrations during the works.
Parintins (Amazonas) — The traditional stage of the Parintins Festival is about to enter a new era. A consortium formed by Arena Events+Venues and ARX Brasil has been selected by the Government of the State of Amazonas to lead the expansion of the Bumbódromo, in a project that combines architectural innovation, cutting-edge engineering and respect for the cultural importance of one of Brazil’s greatest popular spectacles.
With completion expected in approximately three years, the works were designed not to interfere with the festival’s annual staging — a logistical challenge that underscores the complexity and relevance of the initiative.
Coordinated by the State Department of Infrastructure (Seinfra), the project foresees a significant structural transformation. Audience capacity will grow by around 70%, with 9,800 new seats in the traditional galleries and 20 new boxes. The complex’s built area will also triple, jumping from 19,000 to 61,000 square metres.
The proposal goes beyond physical expansion. The new Bumbódromo is conceived as a 360-degree spectacle arena, with architectural solutions geared toward audience immersion. Highlights include a breathable mesh façade and a partial high-durability membrane roof — elements that combine thermal comfort, sustainability and contemporary aesthetics, echoing the designs and geometries of local culture.
Safety and comfort also play a central role. New accesses and ramps will be built into the structure, allowing the space to be fully evacuated in up to eight minutes, in line with rigorous international standards. New social areas around the Bumbódromo, along with adequate restrooms and concession facilities, are also highlights. The Liceu — a major legacy of the project — will gain new classrooms, spaces and exhibition areas dedicated to the history of the Bois and of the largest open-air festival on the planet.
We are elevating the Bumbódromo to an international standard, without losing its cultural essence, with a focus on legacy and audience experience.

The project’s technical lead, architect Caio Bacci Marin, reinforces the cultural impact of the initiative: “The project balances expansion, safety and respect for tradition, valuing local culture, incorporating sustainable solutions and ensuring a lasting legacy for the festival.” For Fabiano Monegaglia Polloni, technical director of ARX Brasil, the logistical challenges further reinforce the project’s uniqueness: “This is a project that combines cutting-edge technology and efficient, modern engineering solutions with one of the country’s greatest logistical challenges — building in the heart of the Amazon.” With the expansion, the Bumbódromo de Parintins positions itself not only as the heart of the festival, but as an arena of international reference — ready to embrace the future without giving up its roots.
